The hoMEworks effort to support a consistent, high quality consumer education program for homebuyers has the support of many nonprofit and private sector organizations. Maine Center for Financial Education, a Division of CCCS, the hoMEworks Educator Group, the Maine Association of REALTORS, the Maine Association of Community Banks, the Mortgage Bankers Association, the Maine Community Action Housing Council, MaineHousing, and housing industry professionals are all represented on the hoMEworks Board of Directors. The hoMEworks mission is to develop a standardized, comprehensive, homeownership education program to be delivered by a network of industry professionals in neutral environments throughout Maine. Working cooperatively, the initial hoMEworks directors developed standards for homeownership education classes and requirements for educators who want to join the hoMEworks network. Unlike programs where students watch a video and have a telephone interview, a hoMEworks class has a minimum of ten classroom hours and take home assignments to help students apply the lessons to their own situation. hoMEworks classes are approved by the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Rural Development (RD), and MaineHousing. The hoMEworks web site is
funded in part by the MaineHousing and HUD. |
